While it’s by no means simple smooth jazz (opening track «Peace Prayer,» a dirge over tribal drums, is downright jagged at points), the LP certainly aims towards an ethereal vibe, but it’s a sinister one redolent of a darkened alley at 3 A.M. with hungry eyes peering through every noir-ish shadow.
Editorial Reviews
…the debut solo from the ex-Master of Disaster comprises five lite-jazz instrumentals with titles like ‘Serenity’ and ‘Abraxas’….a score awaiting a movie.
Mojo
…It’s basically Clemons doing a Jan Garbarek album, soloing over throbbing bass and dancing percussion to create a reverent, uplifting feeling…
Option (19950901)
3 Stars – Good – …Luxuriating in a cooling pool of acoustic tranquility where Clemons’ tentative flurries of saxophone ripple against spectral piano themes, this it the ultimate chill-out zone–applied to frazzled nerve endings at the close of a fractious day…
Q (19950801)
…PEACEMAKER’s six tracks are pleasant in an ethereal, New Age way… – Rating: B-
