Album Notes
Personnel includes: Southside Johnny Lyon, Ronnie Spector, Miami Steven Van Zandt.Personnel: Southside Johnny (vocals, harmonica).Liner Note Author: Jim Bessman.Although Bruce Springsteen may be the best known and most successful New Jersey working class rocker, Southside Johnny has been responsible for some fine moments as well (although admittedly, Springsteen and his guitarist Little Steven wrote many a song for Johnny). Southside Johnny and his backing band, the Asbury Jukes, are more R&B influenced than the Boss, but still know how to get a party going with sing-along rockers and tender ballads. The 19-track 1992 compilation, BEST OF SOUTHSIDE JOHNNY, is fine place to start for the newcomer, as it focuses mainly on the Jukes’ stronger ’70s albums. Standouts include the soulful rockers «The Fever,» «Love on the Wrong Side of Town,» and «Without Love.»
